When John and Lisa met on August 15, 2002, they had absolutely nothing but nefarious motives. In fact, they met via a “back page” ad in the Chicago Reader. [collective crowd gasp] Yes, those nefarious purposes are exactly what they were after.
Fifteen years and two children later, you might say that things worked out for them in the most unexpected way. Fate brought them together, and has been a constant theme in their adventures together. They even have matching Japanese kanji meaning “fate” on their shoulders. No really, just ask them…they’ll show ya.
They married in 2005, moved out of Chicago to a farm in Wisconsin in 2010, and kept moving further north until they settled in Grand Marais, MN. Which is just about as far north as you can go without moving to Canadia. Which they have considered, especially when Trump “got elected”. But I digress…
John and Lisa love to do things like take 20 mile hikes, gaze at Lake Superior in awe, and make friends with trees. They’ve survived all kinds of horriblenesses to arrive at a place of peace with themselves, with each other, with their kids, and within their community. They are truly, madly, and deeply in love with each other and the forest that they’ve chosen to call home. They honor the land and want only to be the best stewards they can possibly be.
