A year ago today, we started building our home. Then, there wasn’t much to look at up here – just the land the we cleared in 2017 that had partially been reclaimed by forest in the three intervening years. On that sunny Saturday morning, we climbed the path (that’s now our driveway) up to what would become the build site for our house. Armed with a two sets of garden loppers to take down that regrown brush and undergrowth, we embarked on a journey that would consume every day, and all our physical, mental, and emotional energy for the next nine months. If we knew then what was ahead of us, there’s a pretty good chance that we would have turned around and headed back down that path as quickly as we could. But, of course, we didn’t. Sometimes, ignorance isn’t only bliss, it’s exactly what you need to get the job done.
Here’s what our land looked like a year ago.
And here’s what it looks like today.
There’s still more to do. That will be this year’s story. But while we show you that process, we thought it might be interesting and helpful for anyone considering or currently on a similar journey to revisit last year’s build in greater detail using the photos and videos that documented our progress.
So stay tuned as we both relive the experience of our lifetimes, giving you what information and advice we can along the way. Thanks for being here.
